My Dearest Rotarians,
Over the past week we have read, seen and heard about the trail of destruction left by the Super Typhoon Haiyan, the strongest to ever make landfall, as it literally decimated parts of Eastern Philippines. There is no official death toll released but the estimates range from 2,000 up to 15,000. As we well know, the casualties will continue to rise as disease runs rampant due to poor sanitary conditions and lack of medical care.
The news reports and haunting images of huge carrier vessels crushed into shophouses and apartment blocks gives an idea of the strength of this monster but we can only imagine the hardship faced by our fellow men who now have to pick up the pieces and rebuild their lives.
As the Director of International Service of our Club, I would like to implore to your hearts. It is time we sprang to action to help relieve their burden. I sincerely believe that every little bit we do goes a long way in making the victims’ lives bearable as they struggle through this ordeal.
During our weekly meeting yesterday, it was agreed that we collect donations and work with our sister club of Circuit Makkati to ensure that our collection is channeled to help the needy.
It was astonishing to see how eager we were to start the ball rolling, as our first pledge came at RM 1,000 and throughout the evening cash donations were handed out by many concerned hearts.
Fellow Rotarians, let us stretch out our charitable hands and give whatever we can to this cause. Let us help the mothers sleep knowing that aid is on the way for their hungry babies. Let us shout out that Rotary is there in this time of great need.
Please channel your donations to our account as below and send me the transaction slips through email. Any amount is most welcome.
